Seasonal Last Name Sign ~ Polymer Clay Turkey

Gobble, gobble!

I made this polymer clay turkey for my seasonal sign using the flower petals from a daisy cookie cutter...

I didn't plan on making him entirely out of petals, but you know how it goes, once I started, I couldn't bring myself to stop!

My template was just a clip art photo I printed out on card stock...

I'm really happy with how he turned out and will be sad to put him away after Thursday.

But, the good news is that Christmas is coming and I'll have something new and festive to hang up in his place!

I haven't drawn on a chalkboard since I was a little kid, but when the new one for my office was delivered, the first thing I did was draw a happy Bob Ross mountain.

I didn't even use my new chalk markers, I just grabbed a stick of good old fashioned Crayola chalk and had a little fun.

There's something about chalk dust that brings back memories from childhood, isn't there?

Next time I'll use a template, a pretty font and my fancy new markers, but this time I just drew what was in my heart.

It doesn't have to be perfect, it just has to make you happy. And when you get down to it, that's what creating art is all about, isn't it?

I had so much fun making the leaves for this week's seasonal sign!

The wreath turned out a little bigger than I originally planned, but I love how it turned out. I've never marbled my clay before and it was totally addicting!

I used two different leaf cutters from this set in several different sizes:

Anyone else making things like this out of polymer clay? Or are you sticking with charms and figurines?

Can't wait to show you the turkey I made in a couple weeks!
